These tiles are a simple combination of intense
color and brushwork. After the intensity of design
in much of my work I am drawn to making these
pieces that can hold space and give the eye
a place to rest. Tiles are rolled out and slowly
dried to keep them flat. When dried the base color
is painted on in layers to allow crackle in the
surface
to develop creating a subtle texture. The lines are
then painted on, sometimes freely, sometimes
painstakingly, looking for a feeling of spontaneity.
After firing tiles are mounted and
prepared for hanging.
These tiles could also be ordered without
backing to be used in tile installations.
